Tales of the Mimetic Badarses - On the Edge of the World

Title: Tales of the Mimetic Badarses - On the Edge of the World
Series: Battletech/Mechwarrior
Originally Published: September 2013, Classic Battletech Forums

Picking up from the cliffhanger at the end of Chasing Shadows, On the Edge of the World marks a major turning point in the series' overall story line. Characters change, characters die, secrets are revealed and relationships are irrecoverably altered as ugly truths emerge. Of course, with anything in this series there's the inevitable issue of how much of what's said can be believed and how much more there is hiding under the surface.

Not only is this chapter a long one, by the way, but it also has no BattleMech combat in it at all. Instead it's all abut daring do, escape plans, gun violence, revelations, experimental surgery and people doing horrible things to one another. In short, the usual.

Trivia:

The Arc Words are there, all right Pay attention to them. Now try to figure out Ogel's vision.

Originally I had planned for a BattleMech fight between the retreating badarses and Ogel's forces, which then turned into them being strafed by aerospace fighters. However, by the time I got to the end the fic was already both pretty long and was taking forever to finish, and I felt that neither would add significantly to the story and only serve to drag it out.

Ogel's head injury was allways going to be in the fic, although how it would happen varied a lot from stray bullets to being zapped by Reg with a taser.

Quarac was a dead man walking from the start of this fic. Sorry!

Rosse originally appeared in the fic  Bitter Tide which is yet to be republished here. It also needs a lot of work before I get to that.

Readers of my older work will find Vic(toria)'s behavior both familiar and different at the same time. Suffice to say that she's a different person now.

Just like Reg should never be let near firearms, clearly Lynne should never be let near cleaning chemicals. She's definitely smarter then the average drunken backwoods redneck hick.
